Marjorie Bolterman was a woman who had a brain injury and received services from New Choices for many years. Marjorie passed away at the age of 49 on April 5, 2009. People who knew Marjorie were universally impressed with her determination and the ability she had to brush aside barriers as she worked towards her goals in life. In the time we knew Marjorie, she was able to live where she wanted, get the job she wanted and even direct the medical care she received during her illness. Marjorie truly made the decisions in her life and was a strong self advocate.
The Marjorie Bolterman Award was created to serve as a shining reminder to us all of the possibilities that exist for all people with disabilities. This award is presented annually to the recipient of NCI services that most exemplifies the qualities that Marjorie possessed that others so admired. The award reads as follows:
“Presented to the person who most exemplifies Marjorie’s perseverance, determination and inspiration to others.”
We wish for each person with a disability that they too can be just as successful as Marjorie was in achieving their goals and making the decisions in their lives.
